Outdoor dinners that linger longer than any restaurant would allow….a peaceful retreat after an intense day….deck lighting is the icing on a cake. Depending on the color and style you like, lights can run from $50 to $85 a piece. All Decks R Us lighting prices includes wiring, transformers, installation, ordering and the permit approval! (If you’re comparing deck builders, make sure that you compare apples to apples and their price includes all these necessities as well)

Decks R US uses low voltage lights so you won’t have the added cost of an electrician, and we are trained to safely install these ourselves. We normally put in a transformer with a 110 volt line than convert the electricity into the softer safe 12 volts that our lights require. The transformer is nothing more than a little box that we can mount under your deck, on your deck or even in the basement and it plugs into a regular standard outlet.

“Sometimes we mount the transformer on the house right beside the outlet. There is a little switch on it that flip whenever you want your outdoor deck lighting on. We’ve done some pretty innovative things by hiding the transformer inside benches too,“ explains Ray.

We can also hook it up to the main box in your home and run a wire from the transformer to the switch inside the patio door, so you can flip a regular switch and the deck lights go on. But running the wire from your main box will require an electrician, just to keep you in compliance with the building codes.

Step Riser Lights
Step Riser lights mount on your stair riser (the vertical part) and cast a light onto the step. You can easily see where you are walking at night. Some models come with regular light, and some come louvered-which cast the light directly down on the step. These lights range from $50 to $60 per light installed with … wiring, transformers, installation, and ordering.

Insiders TIP: If you have long stairs with a 8-10 14 treads, you might be better off with louvered lights because the non-louvered lights will shine in your eye, and not on the steps.

Fortunately, we were able to get everything together in time - albeit the day before our scheduled start day.

Here's an Insider Secret to Deck Lighting
If your steps are longer- maybe 10-15 treads you may want to consider the louvered Step Riser Lights. The regular lights on a step riser could shine directly in your eye as you're walking up. But the louvered lights shine down onto the step and not in your eyes.

Insiders Tips on Deck Lighting
The Eyeball Lights and the tear drop lights are mounted on side of rail posts and they tend to just drop light down onto the deck in a circle and give just accent lighting. “It’s not a real bright and functioning light,” says Decks R Us Mose. “So if you want a stronger light that you could say- read by-you'll want a Cap Light. These lights are brighter and shed light the whole way around. BUT here's something else to consider: these cap lights sit on top of the rail posts, which when you are sitting happen to be right at eye level, and can tend to be a little blinding and block your view.” Make sure you talk about these choices and all the decisions you have with us during your free consultation.
