How Long Should a Deck Builder be on a Job Site?

One of the things that sets Decks R Us apart from other deck builders and those who include deck building in their Jack of All Trades line up is how fast we are in-and out of your property.  Once you complete your Free Consultation, decide on the Final Design, we will take over and start the process of getting the necessary paperwork –as part of our Hassle Free Guarantee.  At the same time, we’ll work with you to get you on the Decks R Us schedule.

Depending on how many customers are ahead of you, it could be as little as 4 weeks or maybe as long as 3 months.

Insider’s Deck Secret: Think About Having Your Deck Built in the Winter…
Most folks are surprised that we build decks year round. Because we build so much of your deck at our facility in Lancaster (-see below-) it’s possible to build the same quality decks all year round. And since most home owner don’t know this and think the only time to build decks is Summer- we can get to your deck a lot faster. If you are considering a deck in the summer, you’d better be on someone’s schedule by April or May- the “lead time” can be up to 4 months for a deck contractor with a good reputation.

But since the demand for decks goes down in the fall and winter, you can give us the green light in January for example, and we can have it completed in 3 weeks.

Why we build a deck faster…

Here’s our secret- and as far as we can tell, we’re the only ones doing this:

  • We build your deck in our facility in Lancaster then load up our trucks and come to your home where we only install.
  • We do very little construction work on your job site.
  • Most of the cutting, planning, sanding, matching, measuring and preparation work is done ahead of time.
We cut most of the parts for your deck at our shop.  For example, we make your stairs before we take them out to your property.
  • We put the rails together in the shop then load them on our trucks, we build your corner benches and flower boxes, then load them up to be installed at your home.
  • We have found that we actually build a better deck because there are so many parts that can be pre-cut and pre made

“This system we have created over the years let’s us spend only a few days at our customer’s home rather than weeks"- Joe, Foreman with Decks R Us.

For a typical deck- 400 square feet, the average deck contractor could be on your property 6 or 7 days- leaving all their stuff out over the weekend.  With our system, we can have the same deck in about 2 or 3 days.

“I was amazed at the work these guys were able to complete in 2 days…”-Kristen Fuette.

Because we do only decks, day in and day out- all year round, we know what we’re doing and we’ll be in and out with having stuff around for weeks at a time.  Any construction project that lasts for weeks may have some extra’s that you had not considered.  Do you really want these things on your property for 3 weeks at a time?

At Decks R Us we do not use any subcontractors to build any of the decks; they are all done by our own crews, which by the way are mostly family members.

The only “Subs” we use are Electricians and screen guys. We have always tried not to use subs because we never know what the quality of work is going to be. But with our guys- and mostly family- it’s a lot easier to make sure they are doing the job right. Come to think of it, you may want to check with the deck builder you are going with to find out if they use subs on their jobs in areas other than the real specialized stuff like electrical work.

  • Trash all over your yard
  • Trash blowing onto the neighbors’ yard
  • 2 and 3 trucks pulling into your yard week after week
  • Workers cars all over the driveway and yard
  • Tracking mud everywhere for weeks
  • Port-a-Potties
  • The 3 weeks of noise from your property

Our crews of Amish craftsmen arrive on your property ready for business.  Since your deck has already been pre assembled, we can drastically cut down on the time we spend on your property.

And we clean up after ourselves.

Hi John,

I've been remiss in not contacting you sooner to say Thank You. Well done!
After getting a little nervous watching your guys work in the snow and freezing cold, and paying in full before the weather cleared enough for me to inspect it, I want you to know how very pleased I am with the final result. And even though I paid in full, they came back within a day or two to take care of some minor problems.
If you built your business on customer relations, trustworthiness, and excellent workmanship, it's no surprise you're as successful as you are.
 Thanks again, Barbara

(We didn’t list their full names here on the site, but let us know if you want to talk these folks or any of our other past customers.)

Doing it Fast Doesn’t Mean Poor Workmanship

We learned a while ago that the quality of your deck actually improves when we work on it our Lancaster shop.

Gideon, our Shop Manager is one of the most detailed guys you’ll ever know.

He understands that everything has to be 100% accurate before he sends your deck out with one of our crews.   And he makes sure that everything is figured out-down to the 1/32 nd of an inch before we reach the job site.

And if you think about it, a manufacturing shop is much better place to do this kind of precision work for your deck.  We can build a tighter, sturdier structure-right off the bat- because we are using more level surfaces.  Rail posts, for example, are going to be better made using our big band saw in our shop, than with a little radial saw on the ground at the job site.

“We don’t necessarily spend less time on your deck TOTAL, just less time on your job site,” explains Decks R Us Ray Ebersol.  “You get a better deck because we can use equipment in our shop that you just can’t take out to a job site.  Our production facility looks more like an Amish wood working shop than they typical deck job sites.  We can build better decks because there is no way we can get the equipment we have to your home.”

And our work is guaranteed.  Find out more about our guarantees here.
